Leinfelden-Echterdingen – The number of extreme weather events is increasing worldwide. Heavy rain and flooding pose a greater threat to buildings than they did a few years ago. Consequently, there is a growing demand for windows that protect cellars, basement levels and ground floors from rising water levels. Only windows and doors that meet the requirements of ift guideline FE-07/1 may be designated as flood-resistant. That is why Roto offers comprehensive advice on the components required to manufacture a flood window in accordance with the applicable technical regulations. Users of “Roto NX” will already be familiar with the main parts of the hardware.
Achieving the goal with proven “Roto NX” components
One thing is clear: additional locking points at intervals tailored to the system are essential to ensure the required level of sealing and stability. The proven security strikers and cams from the “Roto NX” Tilt&Turn hardware system generate the necessary gasket compression between the sash and the frame. To ensure that the laminated safety glass used in flood windows is mounted securely, Roto offers advice on selecting suitable glazing blocks from the “Roto Glas-Tec” product range.
With the “Roto NX | P” surface-mounted hinge side, flood windows offer the same ease of use and convenience as conventional Tilt&Turn windows. If enhanced burglary protection is needed, it is possible to add a lockable window handle and drilling protection from the Roto product range.
A silicone foam stop seal from Deventer, designed to be fitted in the frame overlap, provides additional protection against water ingress: The seal can be joined in the corners of the window frame, creating a continuous sealing level all the way round. On request, Deventer can supply a ready-to-fit, circumferential sealing frame with pre-joined corners if the window manufacturer does not have the necessary equipment for this.
Comprehensive advice
Using components from Roto and Deventer, it is possible to manufacture flood-resistant windows with a sash rebate height of up to 850 mm and a sash rebate width of 1090 mm. The Roto sales team advises and supports window manufacturers in selecting the right components for their system and in obtaining certification for a flood window. A brochure is available to download in English on the Roto website: ftt.roto-frank.com/en/bro-344. It provides a clear overview of the hardware components for a flood window.
“Thanks to Roto’s perfect match, anyone who already produces PVC windows using ‘Roto NX’ will be able to economically manufacture flood windows on their production line,” emphasises Product Manager Andreas Eilmes. The breadth of the hardware product range, as well as its optimal compatibility with Deventer’s sealing profiles, makes it easier for fabricators to enter the flood window market and opens up additional business opportunities.
