Sustainable energy supply with hydropower at our Roto site Kalsdorf
For decades, Roto Window & Door Technology has been committed to sustainable energy solutions at its production site in Kalsdorf, Austria. Around a quarter of the total energy demand is covered by the company's own three hydropower plants. These proven facilities are a central part of the company's strategy for CO2 reduction and sustainable production.
Continuous and reliable power supply with hydropower
One significant advantage of hydropower is the independence from weather conditions such as sunlight or wind force. Therefore, the three hydropower plants in Kalsdorf provide a stable and constant power supply. In addition to their contribution to climate protection, they also play a crucial role in the plant's supply security and thus to customer reliability.
CO2-neutral heat supply with biomass heating plant
Beginning of 2024, a biomass heating plant was also put into operation, ensuring CO2-neutral room and process heat supply. This sustainable solution significantly contributes to the reduction of CO2 emissions and supports environmentally friendly production at the Kalsdorf site.
Supplemented by photovoltaic systems
In addition to the hydropower plants, the Kalsdorf site also operates three rooftop photovoltaic systems with a total area of 4.000 square meters, as well as an 18,000 square meter photovoltaic open space. These systems deliver enough energy to supply about 800 households per year. Together with the hydropower plants, the PV systems cover up to 50% of the electricity demand of the site.
On the path to a more sustainable production
Roto Window & Door Technology designs its production, operational, and logistics processes to be energy-efficient and ensures that the raw materials it sources are produced in a climate- and environmentally friendly way. The company is committed to the careful use and recycling of resources, thus promoting the path to a circular economy. These measures underscore Roto's commitment to a sustainable future and responsible production.
