Innovation Arch by Hadi Teherani Architects

All the rooms of the Innovation Arch are flooded with daylight. This is not least thanks to Schindler Fenster und Fassaden GmbH from Roding, the company responsible for processing the glass and aluminium according to the designs of the architects and PBI Entwicklung innovativer Fassaden GmbH. Michael Schindler, Managing Director, is delighted that his team was involved in this pioneering project.

“We create long-lasting products and produce them with particular care.”

Concealed hardware for a pure aesthetic

The concealed Turn-Only hardware for aluminium windows with a sash weight of up to 180 kg meets planners’ and architects’ most stringent requirements for perfect appearance, functionality and ease of processing. This premium hardware in the aluminium segment has a modular design based on the proven Roto modular principle and can be integrated into almost all Euro-chamber profile systems.

527 tonnes of CO2 saved

The WICTEC EL evo unitised facade from Wicona was used for the first time for this extraordinary new building. It is based on “end-of-life aluminium”, i.e. 100% recycled aluminium. A total of 85 tonnes of this material were used for the 5400 m2 facade. This saved 527 tonnes of CO2 emissions that would have been generated by producing new aluminium.

Integrated into the landscape

Measuring 147 m in length and up to 23.5 m in height, the building consists of two arched components. Dr Christian Bergmann from the team of architects explains: “We created a green roof that integrates seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. This relatively simple idea resulted in an arched silhouette that will act as a landmark for the entire innovation campus in the future.”

A sign of sustainability

The roof of the building was partially greened and equipped with a 99 kWp photovoltaic system. Heating and cooling are supplied by a heat pump with its own groundwater well. A high level of room comfort is ensured thanks to ceiling sails which provide heating and cooling.

Dr Roy Walter, qualified engineer and CEO of Walter Beteiligungen und Immobilien AG, the developer and owner of the property states: “We wanted to set an example in terms of sustainability and energy efficiency with the Innovation Arch, and we successfully achieved this.” The aim is for the Augsburg Innovation Arch to be awarded LEED Platinum certification in the Core & Shell rating system.

Building the future with Roto

Matthias Nagat, Head of Sales and Product Management at Roto Aluvision, proudly states: “Roto is a committed partner to many innovative facade manufacturers and system suppliers. Landmarks such as the Augsburg Innovation Arch emphasise that our hardware technology is being used to build the future all over the world.”
