BAU 2025: Tilt&Turn hardware technology for every aluminium system
Many new launches for aluminium windows / “Roto AL Designo | STS 180°” concealed hinge side / Load transfer in the “AL Designo | STS hinge side” range / Handle-controlled retaining restrictors / “Roto AL | ELA” opening restrictor with end position locking / “Roto Glas-Tec | GL-UKS”: reliable load transfer of heavy glass for robust aluminium elements
Leinfelden-Echterdingen – The demand for aluminium windows with the Tilt&Turn opening type, which are safe to operate even on the upper floors of a high-rise building, is growing on an international scale. With its “Roto AL” and “Roto AL Designo” Tilt&Turn hardware product ranges, Roto Window and Door Technology (Roto FTT) offers manufacturers reliable yet innovative hardware solutions for this window type. The possible applications of these both lines are being further extended in 2025. A number of new solutions were showcased at the “BAU” trade show in January. All of the components in the Roto hardware product ranges achieve corrosion protection class 5 in accordance with DIN EN 1670.

New to the market: the “Roto AL Designo | STS 180°” hinge side
For years now, many well-known manufacturers have been using the “AL Designo” concealed hinge side to produce inward opening Tilt&Turn windows in a wide variety of formats. The “Roto AL Designo | STS” hinge side has been available worldwide since 2023. It is also suitable for flush aluminium profiles. Roto is now launching a version for window sashes which weigh up to 80 kg and can be opened up to 180°. This means that the window sash does not protrude into the room, even when fully turned open. It is now even simpler to carry out safe intensive ventilation and cleaning of the outside of the sash. The kinematics of the new “AL Designo | STS 180°” hinge side are designed so that it can be combined with flush profile systems on request. Stainless-steel punched components make it extremely corrosion-resistant, like all other hinge sides from Roto.
“Roto AL Designo | STS” for additional profile systems
The optimised turning curve of the “AL Designo | STS” hinge side enables the window sash to be opened without collisions, even with minimal clearance on the hinge side and with constructions that are flush with the surface. It therefore offers greater freedom when designing facades and interior spaces. Before the end of this year, Roto will launch another version of the “AL Designo | STS” hinge side for profiles with a narrow frame groove of 10 mm. It is already available for frame profiles with a groove width of 14 mm. This means that the “AL Designo | STS”range includes three concealed hinge sides for almost all common aluminium profile systems. They are fixed in place quickly and simply with mounting wedges.
Load transfer for sashes up to 130 kg
With a new load transfer component which will soon be available for the “AL Designo | STS” hinge side, Roto assists with the production of elements with a sash weight of up to 130 kg. In this way, the manufacturer is helping to meet the increasing requirements placed on aluminium windows in numerous markets. Around the world, more and more elements with thermal separation and insulating glass – resulting in higher sash weights – are being used.
Retaining restrictors with exceptional operating convenience
More and more invitations to tender and specifications are calling for aluminium windows with tested opening restrictors. These offer increased protection for the window reveal and reduce the potential risks present inside and in front of buildings when a window can be fully turned open. At “BAU” 2025, Roto showcased a new retaining restrictor which is designed to be combined with Turn-Only hardware from the “Roto AL” and “Roto AL Designo” product ranges. It offers exceptional operating convenience as it is directly controlled by the handle.
The retaining force of the new retaining restrictor can even be adjusted when installed. It can be positioned directly, meaning that it is not inserted. It can therefore also be retrofitted. The user locks the window sash in any position using the handle.
“Roto AL | ELA”opening restrictor with tandem function
The “AL | ELA” opening restrictor with end position locking is one of the most successful solutions from the Roto range of accessories. It ensures that sashes stop at a defined opening width and are locked in this end stop position using the handle. Only authorised individuals are able to unlock a window sash via the “TiltFirst” handle using a removable key at the cylinder and disable the turn restrictor for cleaning purposes. The turning movement is purposely limited for staff or visitors in public buildings, for example. They are only able to close or open a sash as far as the defined end stop position. At “BAU”, Rotor presented the “AL | ELA” in a floor-to-ceiling balcony door.
Universal block for facades and protruding substructures
Also on display at the trade show in Munich was a glazing block from the “Roto Glas-Tec” range recommended for aluminium elements. The “GL-UKS” is a universal block with a 1.5 mm-thick stainless-steel insert and a flexible glass supporting surface. Whenever the glass and frame combination in complex facades and protruding substructures is exposed to unusual forces, the it helps give an element stability. Thanks to its high inherent stability, the “GL-UKS” ensures load transfer of heavy glass even in challenging installation situations.
Aluvision counts on variety
Roto assists with the design and production of aluminium windows with a premium appearance, which also achieve the highest classification in long-term functional performance cycles and the highest corrosion protection class (class 5). Roto Aluvision not only provides advice relating to the use of state-of-the-art hardware product ranges, but also offers support with regard to working with sealing profiles from Deventer and Ultrafab, as well as with thresholds and glazing technology from Roto. Matthias Nagat, Head of Sales and Product Management at Roto Aluvision, explains what the work is focused on: “2025 will be characterised by many additions to our hardware product ranges that are important for international aluminium window construction. But we don’t just provide advice on the hardware technology, but also on a unique complete package, a ‘perfect match’ between many components which make working with aluminium and glass cost-efficient and incredibly safe.”
The hardware solutions for aluminium windows and balcony doors that were on show at “BAU” are also showcased in the virtual “Roto City”. The assigned regional specialist advisor from Roto Sales can present all of the exhibits that were on display at the trade show to prospective customers and advise them on the latest components.
