| 5 Lipetsk-Knipping becomes Schtern Doubling production capacities ■■ PVC The Russian profile and window manufacturer Okonnaja Kompania Schtern is planning to double its monthly produc- tion output from August 2013. Director Bazhenow Eduard Viktorowitsch says that everybody at the company’s headquarters in Lipetsk is well prepared for this increase in growth. He thinks that, thanks to working in-house production of double-glazing and PVC profile extrusion, which was started in 2010, the company has the necessary process reliability for this brave step. Today Okonnaja Kompania Schtern is one of the largest Russian manufacturers of PVC windows. Around 465 employees work in the company’s three factories on the 16,000-square-metre- compound. In the future, they will produce 12.6 million metres of profiles annually and windows with a total area of up to 91,000 square metres per month. Sales of the windows are handled by a network of contracted suppliers spread all over Russia. Quality for everybody “As mentioned earlier: Schtern windows for every home. That is our goal – qualitatively and quantitatively,” director Bazhenow Eduard Viktorowitsch says, adding “The brand name Schtern stands for windows offering thermal and burglary protection to a high European level, with sun screening glazing or shatterproof glass available on request.” The best prematerials are used to ensure that the quality promise can be kept. That is why, in 2010, Schtern decided to change over to Roto. Together with Roto and reputable mechanical engineers, the company is also working towards increasing the level of automation further. “We are currently testing out new processes for inserting double glazing into profiles ...” When Bazhenow Eduard Viktorowitsch was looking for a hard- ware supplier, Roto became particularly attractive because it could keep up with Schtern’s high development rate. “And we have not been disappointed in the three years we have worked with Roto,” he says with satisfaction. “Like us, Roto strives to deliver high- quality products for prices an average client and home can afford. We appreciate this just as much as Roto’s high delivery reliability. But of course it is also important that we really enjoy collaborating with Roto’s specialists. We understand and trust each other.” Since 2008, thermally insulating double glazing has been produced in Lipetsk for window manufacturing. Upon request, the company can also deliver sun screening glazing and burglar-proof panes. High-quality raw materials and prematerials from all over the world are used in Okonnaja Kompania Schtern’s factories. The machines in the company’s three divisions come from notable manufacturers from all over Europe. In 1996, a PVC window installation company was founded in Lipetsk, 450 kilometres to the south of Moscow. Its turnover and production capacities have been growing steadily ever since. Together with Roto and reputable mechanical engineers, Okonnaja Kompania Schtern is also working towards increasing the amount of automation further. “Currently we are testing new processes to fit double-glazing into profiles ...” “In the future, we will be able to produce 3,000 standard Schtern windows and, additionally, around 300 made-to-measure con- structions every day,” says the 47-year old manager, for whom window manufacturing is a socially important task. “Modern insulating glass and profiles should be affordable for every Russian home owner. That is our mission. Schtern windows for every home – that is what we strive for.” Home-made glass panes and profiles What started out 17 years ago as a PVC window installation company in Lipetsk, 450 km to the south of Moscow, is now a successful PVC window manufacturer. Even in the crisis year 2008, the company’s turnover was strong. “In the course of the many years dominated by growth, we looked at the profiles of other manufacturers, analysed their strengths and worked out what was particularly important for our windows. Eventually, it became obvious that we would construct and produce our own profiles. This would make us quick and flexible,” Bazhenow Eduard Viktorowitsch remembers. In 2010, the decision was made to build up an in-house PVC extrusion facility. The company has been dealing with the production of insulating glass since 2007. Bazhenow Eduard Viktorowitsch is convinced that “For us, starting our own PVC extrusion was another important step towards independence and increased delivery reliability. It was definitely the right decision.” Only the best from all over the world High-quality raw materials and prematerials from all over the world are processed and used in Okonnaja Kompania Schtern’s factories.
